ROYAL NEWS: Prince William: How Queen Elizabeth Helped Plan My Wedding

WOW…love this inside look on their family.  It helps us to see that they are normal people outside of their titles.  Queen Elizabeth always comes off cold~ but this little article helps us see past it =)

From UsWeekly (of course):

Grandma knows best!

Prince William and Duchess Kate had an awful lot of input planning their historic April 29 wedding — perhaps the most important coming from William’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

William, 29, gave his first interview ever about England’s long-reigning monarch, 85, and their relationship, in author Robert Hardman’s new book The Queen, as excerpted in the Daily Mail.

And the no-nonsense Queen was happy to advise her grandson on dealing with a daunting invite list for his special day with Kate, 29. “I was given this official list of 777 names… dignitaries, governors, all sorts of people. and not one person I knew,” William says in the interview.

Flummoxed, William called up the Queen. “I rang her up the next day and said: ‘Do we need to be doing this?’ And she said: ‘No. Start with your friends first and then go from there.’ And she told me to [throw out] the list. She made the point that there are certain times when you have to strike the right balance. And it’s advice like that, which is really key, when you know that she’s seen and done it before.”

But the Queen was less permissive when it came to her grandson’s wedding day attire. As member of more than one military service in England, the Prince had a choice of uniforms to wear down the aisle.

“I was given a categorical: ‘No, you’ll wear this!'” William said, explaining that he was told to wear his uniform corresponding with his spot at Colonel of the Irish Guards (his most senior military appointment).

“So you don’t always get what you want, put it that way.” William, laughing, recalled. “But I knew perfectly well that it was for the best. That ‘no’ is a very good no. So you just do as you’re told!”

Explained England’s future king of their special relationship: “I say to people, ‘She’s my grandmother to me first and then she’s the Queen. Words that come from her, I take very personally and I really appreciate…My relationship with my grandmother has gone from strength to strength.”

He continued: “As a shy, younger man it could be harder to talk about weighty matters. As I”ve got older, she’s become an even more important part of my life, so it’s much easier. And obviously, with the wedding, she was a massive help.”

He can’t imagine going through that romantic, historic day without her help. “For me particularly, being the young bloke coming through, being able to talk to my grandmother, ask her questions and know that there’s sound advice coming back is very reassuring…she won’t necessarily force advice on you…She’ll let you work it out for yourself. She’s always there for a question or two, for whatever it is you might need.”

Angelina Jolie and Gwen Stefani Play Date

WOW…this is such a mega combination.  If these kids become BFFs…can you imagine the inbreeding of beautiful babies and elitest kids?  wowza…

Here’s what UsWeekly had to say:

The Jolie-Pitts and Stefani-Rossdales are BFFs!

On Monday, Angelina Jolie and part of her brood went to Gwen Stefani‘s London home for a playdate. Shiloh, 5, Zahara, 6, and 3-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox were all smiles alongside Kingston Rossdale, 5.

So how exactly do Jolie, 36, and Stefani, 41, know each other? A source tells Us Weekly that Brad Pitt has been pals with the No Doubt singer and hubby Gavin Rossdale for years. He and ex-wife Jennifer Aniston attended the couple’s L.A. wedding in Sept. 2002. “They’ve run in the same social circle [for a long time],” adds a source.

When Shiloh and Kingston were born a day apart, the parents became “even better friends. “Right away they started getting [the kids] together for play dates,” a source tells Us. “Brad had [the Stefani-Rossdales] up to his Santa Barbara house for the weekend.”

In an interview with CNN‘s Sanjay Gupta last year, Jolie admitted she didn’t have a lot of close friends. “I’ll talk to my family,” she said. “I talk to Brad [Pitt]… But I don’t know. I don’t have a lot of friends I talk to. He is really the only person I talk to.”

Jolie and Pitt, 47, also welcomed Vivienne and Knox in Aug. 2008, just one month before Stefani and Rossdale, 45, had their son Zuma.

“Somehow [Gwen and I] keep ending up pregnant at the exact same time,” Jolie told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2008. “We were having a playdate and Gwen was trying to figure out what she was going to wear as she got more pregnant… I asked her if she had any spare clothes, and she gave me this [L.A.M.B. casual black] dress..”

“All of the kids are very close in age. They’ve attended each other’s birthday parties and gotten together several times at each others homes,” says a source.

Over the summer, Stefani and Rossdale attended the premier of Pitt’s film Tree of Life at Cannes, and now that both families are in London, a source says “it made perfect sense for all of the kids to get together for a playdate!”

Fall 2011 Jackets: Blazers

Ahh…the Blazer.  Such a classic, timeless piece for any wardrobe.  I personally invested in two: white and black.  Nothing fancy about either jacket~ that way I can keep them throughout every season.  However…As I look at the Fall 2011 Blazers on, I am beginning to think I need a fitted tuxedo Blazer, a Gray Blazer, a loose Boyfriend Blazer, and Pin-tucked Blazer.
Blazers are the best for finishing an outfit and keeping things trendy when it gets  a little chilly.  They are the best staple in any wardrobe.  My favorite part about a Blazer is that they are no longer for the work place only.  They can be worn on the weekends, date night, etc.  The fashion world has re-purposed the functionality of it and made it more universal.  GENIUS.

New Arrivals at

I absolutely LOVE  Why?  They are similar to forever21, but the looks are a lot more unique and the prices are AMAZING.  All of the items below are listed between $30-$41, except for the gold shorts that are $55.  For super trendy looks, that’s an AMAZING deal.  You may want to invest in staple wardrobe items, but for the few trendy items that you want to add to your wardrobe each season…Lulus is definitely the way to go.   Lately I’ve had a lot of bridal showers, Bachelorettes, and weddings to go to~ and rather than buying a ton of pricey dresses~ it’s been much easier to buy 3-4 cute ones from Lulus and not spend more than $150.  What a great steal!

Fall 2011 Jackets: Leather

Every Fall, I always wonder if I should buy another Leather Jacket.  Even if I have the same colors, the STYLE is different, so I always justify another purchase.  Do you have this problem too?

Here are some of my favorite picks from

Sex and the City Prequel Set for the CW!

Can you imagine it?   “The CW has picked up Sex and the City prequel series The Carrie Diaries — based on author Candace Bushnell’s recent young adult novel about the HBO series protagonist’s senior year in a small New England town. ”

The gossip girl producers (Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage) will be working on this project together.

WOW…I’m actually really excited.  I just hope it doesn’t turn out to be cheesy.

Fall 2011 Jacket Craze: Shearling Jackets

I cannot emphasize enough how obsessed I am with Shearling Jackets for this fall and winter.  I LOVE the obnoxious ones that cover your body.  The big fashion statement it makes, plus the functionality of a warm jacket is making me search high and low for the perfect one!

George Clooney and Stacy Keibler Step Out together at Toronto Film Festival

Take THAT Elisabtta Canalis!  Stacey Keibler and George Clooney started dating shortly after Clonney and Canalis ended things.  Canalis was apparently really clingy and only into the fame.  *eye roll *

I LOVE Stacey Keibler and always have.  I hope she doesn’t get screwed by Clooney.  Apparently she’s really strong and independent, so the relationship has been smooth sailing.  Keep it up Keib!

Jennifer Lopez, Bradley Cooper Go on Romantic Dinner Date

Dun Dun DuHhhhHhhh!!!  Is J.Lo dating again???

Apparently the two were spotted at NYC’s Per Se restaurant together and they had a 2-hour dinner date.  Was this for business or Pleasure?  That’s what the celeb gossip world wants to know.  Apparently this place is known for their privacy and the pricey eatery can cost $295 per person for their pre-fixe menu.  WOWZA.

Will this relationship work?  My guess…Hells No.

Small Tribute to the 9/11/01 10-year anniversary weekend

As we recognized the ten-year anniversary of the most tragic terrorist attack, it came to me with two weird opposing feelings.  I felt saddened by the losses so many years ago when two planes hit the twin towers.  The shocking news left me speechless as I was getting ready for school, one morning of my senior year.  I remember hearing the tragic stories, watching the terrifying videos and mourning for people I didn’t know.  The second feeling I felt was Relief.  I was relieved that no such attach has occurred on U.S. soil.  Relieved that no one had been successful at killing thousands of innocent people for a political/religious cause.  That very relief then morphed into pride and happiness for the heroes that emerged from that day: Firefighters, Police Officers, Good Samaritans, New York Citizens.

For the 10-year anniversary, the memorial that was built was finally open to the public.  Here’s what had to say…

NEW YORK — The plot of land known for a decade as “the pile,” “the pit” and “ground zero” opened to the public Monday for the first time since that terrible morning in 2001, transformed into a memorial consisting of two serene reflecting pools ringed by the chiseled-in-bronze names of the nearly 3,000 souls lost.

The 9/11 memorial plaza opened its gates at 10 a.m. under tight, airport-style security. Visitors were allowed to walk among hundreds of white oak trees on the eight-acre site and gaze at the water on the exact spots where the World Trade Center’s twin towers stood.

They will also be able to run their fingers over the names of the 2,977 people killed in the terrorist attacks in New York, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania, as well as the six who died in the bombing of the trade center in 1993. Electronic directories with a “Find a Name” button will help people locate their loved ones.

Julio Portalatin, of Jersey City, N.J., had a ticket for 10:30 a.m.

“I’m very, very drawn to this place,” said Portalatin, who survived the attack on the north tower, where he worked for an insurance company. He added: “It’s such a classy way to honor those who perished.”

He and his wife got their tickets online three weeks ago “to pay tribute, to pay honor, to the eternal-ness of it all.”

The memorial plaza opened to the families of the victims for the first time on Sunday.

Among the visitors on both Sunday and Monday was Jelena Watkins. Watkins’ brother died at the trade center, and she came from London for Sunday’s 10th anniversary of the attacks.

At the memorial, she and her husband held up their two children so that they could see their uncle’s name. Luka, 5, ran his hands through the water that pools under the names.

“I love it. It was a huge relief to see that it’s actually beautiful,” Watkins said. “It’s the right feel. It’s just so right. It’s so spacious.”

‘A place of beauty’
Although thousands of construction workers have come and gone from the site over the years, Monday marks the first time that ordinary Americans without a badge, a press pass or a hard hat will be able to walk the grounds where the victims were once entombed in a mountain of smoking rubble.

“For the vast majority of the world, the images that they remember from this site are very difficult. It’s the recovery period, it’s seeing those images of the towers falling. So when they come on now and see this place that’s been transformed into a place of beauty, it’s exciting,” memorial president Joe Daniels said Monday before the memorial opened.

Admission is free, but access will be tightly controlled. Visitors need to obtain passes in advance, allowing them to enter at a specified time. No more than about 1,500 at a time will be allowed in.

Visitors will have to empty their pockets, walk through a metal detector and send their handbags and backpacks through an X-ray machine.

About 7,000 people were issued tickets for opening day. Some 400,000 have reserved tickets for the coming months, Daniels said.

Much of the memorial complex is still under construction, including the museum portion. The museum pavilion, a tilting structure that evokes the sections of the trade center facade that remained standing after the towers fell, is scheduled to open on the 11th anniversary of the attacks.

Eventually visitors to the underground portion of the complex will be able to gaze at such sights as the giant slurry wall, built to keep the Hudson River from flooding the trade center’s foundations, and the survivor’s staircase that allowed so many people to flee to safety.

‘These people are real people to me’
But seeing the names was enough for many of the families.

“It breaks me up,” said David Martinez, who watched the attacks from his office in Manhattan and later learned that he had lost a cousin and a brother, one in each tower.

Debra Burlingame, whose brother, Charles, was the pilot of American Airlines Flight 77, cried when she found his name, grouped with other crew members and passengers aboard the flight.

“These are all his crew,” she said. “I know all their families. These passengers, I knew their families. These people are real people to me. It’s very touching to see all these people here together.”

The letters in the names have been entirely cut out of the bronze, with only emptiness beneath them.

The cost of the memorial and museum has been put at about $700 million, with an annual operating budget of $50 million to $60 million. The nonprofit organization that runs the project has raised about $400 million in private donations and is seeking federal funds so that the memorial and museum can be free of charge.

The centerpiece of the memorial is the two giant, square pits and reflecting pools that sit in the footprints of the two towers. The waterfalls cascading down the four walls of each fountain are the largest such fountains in North America.

Skyscrapers are now pushing upward all around the plaza, and the roar of construction will be a constant at the site for some time.

One World Trade Center, the spire once called the Freedom Tower, is now 1,000 feet high and well on its way to becoming the tallest building in the U.S. at 1,776 feet — higher even than the twin towers. The steel skeleton of the new 4 World Trade Center is 47 stories high and counting.

The memorial foundation has arranged for a separate entrance for relatives of the victims and plans to set aside certain days or hours where the plaza will be open only to firefighters, police officers and other emergency workers.

“I think people will have that very special feeling of stepping on ground that the public has not in the last 10 years,” Daniels said.

As for the tight security, he said: “It’s an inconvenience, but if you think about any site in the world, I think this is a place that people will expect to go through some security.”
