I recently went to a Posada before Christmas and it was a really beautiful site! It was my first time participating and seeing something like this (more info on posada’s here). This was one of the most fun nights I’ve had this year~~ with great food, friends, family and games. Being around such love and cheer made me appreciate the holidays, huge families, Mexican culture, and the birth of Jesus.
(My pictures below were taken from a cell phone so it looks pretty bad. )
people singing and walking to the last home (where the posada party takes place)
People singing outside the last home
people coming into the house in a singing procession
kids in costume! so adorable~~
After the ceremonial walk and singing, it was TIME TO EAT!! There was so much food and chaos that I couldn’t take pictures of everything. Here are just a few snapshots of what I was eating~
Homemade Funnel Cake-like dessert
Finally, we ended the night with 7 pinatas and a chicken fight game.
A traditional 5 star posada pinata
My FIRST time hitting a pinata!! =)
Tons of little kids waiting to hit 1 of the 7 pinatas!
This last chicken fight game with balloons was so much fun. I got out in like the first few seconds (lame) but it was incredible to watch . Kids, grown men, and all the people in between were hopping around on one foot laughing as they tried to pop each other’s balloons. It was really the icing on the cake to a perfect evening. =)
Can’t wait until the next Posada in December 2014!
