Christmas Eve

This was the first Christmas Markel and I spent together as Husband and Wife + the first year we weren’t with Family for Christmas Eve.  Sooo, we made up our OWN tradition!  We decided to have sushi for dinner and invited over our close friends who also live in our building.  The four of us feasted on delicious food, drank a little Champs to celebrate and then went to see Her in theatres.  It was such a lovely and low key evening, I can’t wait to make it a continuous tradition for us as we begin this amazing journey as Husband and Wife.

xo  Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas!

Vegas

I thought about this title for a little bit… “Vegas for old folks”?  “Vegas, when you’re not young anymore” or perhaps…”Vegas without clubbing and binge drinking“…

But in the end, whatever you choose to do in Vegas…the word still holds a lot of significance on it’s own.  So whether you thought I had a CRAZYYY trip or a calm one…you’ve still clicked to read it right?  lol

In any case, this Vegas trip was by far one of the most fun weekends in 2013.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

The day started bright at early at 6am.  Not only did I need to still pack for Vegas, but i had to pack Lucy’s stuff as well.  (I found 2 babysitters who were willing to watch her over the weekend while we were away.)

I swear Lucy sensed we were leaving b/c she climbed into the suitcase while I was packing and cried a little.  SO HEARTBREAKING!!

image

I had a half-day at work and we had our Holiday Party at Akasha in Culver City.  LOVE THAT PLACE!!!

imageimage

imageimage

After lunch it was off to Vegas!!! =)

My old roomie and her bf picked us up and we drove in somewhat heavy traffic.  We were hoping to get into the city by around 730-8pm but it ended up being closer to 10. >.<  For our late night dinner, we went straight to Oyster Bar at the Palace Hotel (off the strip).  The hotel was…not awesome and looked pretty old.  But don’t let that turn you off from checking Oyster Bar out!  It was…BEYOND amazing.  I totally plan to go back every single chance I get in Vegas!  (open 24 hours!)

People told us the line could be as long as 3 hours, but we were lucky and only waited for about 30 minutes.  We were pretty pooped from the drive, so it felt much longer~~ but it was good timing!

image

Oyster Bar is TIIINY.  So easy to miss or think it’s something hella random if you don’t know about it in advance.

image

The Chef cutting our Oysters!  We each got 1 dozen and the meat was literally the size of my palm.  SO CRAZY and delicious.  Usually the larger the meat, the less delicious it is~~ but these were incredible.

image

image

The Sourdough was DELICIOUS and totally picture worthy.  We saved it so that we could dip it into our food later. =P

image

Beer & Bloody Mary

image

Bloody Mary Shooters!  We got 2 tequila and 1 vodka.  I was definitely BUZZZED after this!

image

Our dozen Oysters!  Look at how small the lemon wedges and roll are compared to the Oysters!  eeeek~~

image

The Combo Gumbo (Shrimp, Crab, Lobster)

We got level 8 in spicy and it was too spicy for Markel.  I think 5 would have been perfect. The Gumbo was tastey and it was REALLY good with the roll & rice.

My friends got the Combo Pan Roast and I totally thought that was better than the Gumbo.  The creamy tomato sauce was really satisfying and you couldn’t taste the heat as much as the Gumbo…  Next time I go, I definitely plan to get the Pan Roast instead and perhaps a Pasta.  Those looks amazing~~

image

Back at the Hotel, we brought out the snacks/alchie and got the night started!  Between 6 people, we had enough food for 12, alchie for 8 and water for 4.  LOL

Weekend Recap and Photodump

This weekend was eventful and uneventful all at the same time. I had to work for part of it, and the rest of the time…I overindulged in spirits =P.  I didn’t take very many pictures, but here are the ones I have.

Friday Night, we met up with our favorite friend in Echo Park and ate at Masa’s.  This was the best chicago style pizza I’ve ever had!  Plus, the gnocchi, caesar salad and bread were…out of this world. ❤  I can’t wait to go back and try more things on the menu!

Amazing bread + Caesar Salad

Drinks!  To help ease us into the weekend and let us forget our stressful work weeks.

After dinner we walked around the new lake in Echo Park and it was GORGEOUS.  I want to go back during the day or morning to check it out fully~ I had no idea this event existed in Echo Park!

Downtown Skyline.  My camera phone did not do this view justice.

Lily pads!  They were everywhere and it was so pretty to see it at night~

Sunday I had to work…so there were no pictures of our Fall BBQ.  But these are my weekend pics.  This upcoming weekend is a 3-day-er for me, so I’m really looking forward to it.

Happy Hump Day All!

Hawaii (Part I)

ahhhhhhhhhhh I can’t believe Hawaii was 3 weeks ago.  Feels like just yesterday we were lying on the beach and eating spam masubi’s ❤  I have about 6 posts about it~~ so bare with me people.  I need to relive such an awesome trip during the most stressful time at work.  LOL

Markel and I flew to Hawaii on a night flight out of LAX.  We were both tired and just ready to get to the white sand beaches of Hawaii!

Upon arrival, the weather was noticeably more humid than LA.  But were exciiiited!

When my mom picked us up, we went home for a delicious home cooked meal~~ something I had been craving for MONTHS.  My mom’s such a great cook and it was HEAVENLY to eat all her little treats.

image

Next to my mom’s cooking~ the second thing I can’t WAIIIT to eat is PAPAYA!  There’s a rainbow papaya (red) and a yellow papaya.  The rainbow one is candy sweet and the yellow one is just fruit sweet.  haha I don’t know if that makes sense…LOL

My mom buys a case at a time from the distribution factory and they are SO incredibly fresh. *DROOL*

View From My Parents’ Place ❤  right next to Ala Moana Beach and a short walk from waikiki ❤

image

image

image

The first morning, Mike and I were there~ we went on a walk with my mom near her place along the beach.  She does this walk along ala moana beach and it leads to Magic Island.  SUCH A BEAUTIFUL TREK!  Here are some pics we took on our walk~

Don’t some of these look like fake desktop photos??

image

image

After our morning walk, we went to the Stadium Flea Market.  I hadn’t been here since 2005, so it was nice to go back there.  This place was literally EVERYTHING touristy.  Anything with Hawaiian print, Hawaiian souvenirs, etc.  The three of us bought some nice things and also got a few items for my mom’s big birthday cruise at the end of the week (she wanted a Hawaiian theme).

image

image

imageimage

image

Isn’t this so cool??  If Mike and I had a bigger place, we totally would have taken one of these bad boys home.  These are all hand carved from a specific kind of tree in Hawaii.

image

Next Up?  Dole Plantation!  YUMMM

image

image

image

We also went to Turtle Beach next to North Shore, but the turtles weren’t out to play =(

For dinner, my bro and his wife came over for dinner to eat my mama’s amazing cooking.   Since I don’t get to eat my mama’s food often, I always pig out whenever I can get it.  She makes the best side dishes, kimchi, meat, noodles…EVERYTHING!!  *droooooooooool *

Weekend Recap and Photodump

Work this week has been a bit cray.  So this update is late as well… but what else is new huh?

Last weekend was a really good mix of rest and friends.  I had 2 birthdays to celebrate and each one did it in total style ❤

Friday–Markel and I started Orange is the New Black.

Saturday–I went to a fabulous Birthday Brunch in Westwood at a place called Tavern.  I’ve always wondered about the food here and it really surpassed my imagination.  TOTALLY recommend it for girlfriends who brunch, big groups, and romantic dinners.

Then for Dinner, We celebrated our beloved Jdawgs Dirty Thirty at Lala’s Argentine Grill on Melrose.  LOVED the food and Sangria here.

image

After Dinner, off to Drinks at Edendales in Silverlake! ❤

image

Sunday, Markel and I had a friend staying with us so we spent the morning relaxing and eating together.  The boys went golfing in the morning while I tried to cook us a new recipe that ended up being a total fail.  *sigh *  But the boys were nice enough to clean their plates in front of me. =)

For a late lunch/early dinner, I went to Ugo with my bestie.  I forgot how amazing the food is there!

image

For the first time in a long time~ the weekend fun did NOT stop there.  I met up with girlfriends on Monday for a delicious Korean dinner in ktown.  Tried out a new place called School Food.  I haven’t had Korean food in so long I inhaled everything!

image

Tuesday Night, the Bs and I celebrated/enjoyed our last meal together as single ladies.  One of the Bs is about to have a little one any day!  It was the last wine night without babies ❤  Can’t wait for what this year will bring for the rest of us!

image

ANNNDDD, now it’s almost the weekend again! =)  Markel and I are going to Big Bear with a big group of friends so I can’t wait to get dark, play in the water, and enjoy getting out of LA for a bit.

Happy Friday Eve!

Blair Bucket List for Summer 2013

Markel and I never do bucket lists, but this summer we came up with 15 things that we hope to accomplish in the next three months as a newlywed couple ❤Untitled

What do you think?  Did we leave anything out?  Do you guys every do summer lists?

Weekend Recap and Update

Markel and I had a really big and busy weekend.  We hosted guests to our new place for the first time.  It was filled with lots of loved ones, fun, good food, and drinks! ❤

Friday Night, we hosted a thank you dinner for some of the people who helped at the Wedding.  (second diner party to come soon!)  We ate delicious chicken enchiladas, chicken tortilla soup, sangria, beer…and dessert that no one got to eat =(

We attempted to play a game, but the girls rocked the boys so fast that…well…it wasn’t fair to finish.  hehe

image

Saturday, my new parents (MIL, FIL) came over and we hung out and watched a movie.  It was fun being able to host in our new place ❤

Weekend Recap and Photodump (part I)

SO MUCH happened two weekends ago and during that week~that I’m breaking it down to four posts (1 per day almost)

I had Friday Off, so it seemed even crazier than it was!  haha

Let me back up a little to wed/thurs… It’s Persian New Year (Nowruz) right now and one of the sweetest people brought us heart shaped pistachio cookies.  SO tastey and they were homemade!
